HO Atlas Master - Portec 3000 Covered Hopper (AEX) 9336

The Portec 3000 covered hopper was developed for transporting bulk commodities such as grain, feed, plastics, and other dry products that needed protection from the elements during rail shipment. Built by Portec and based on the company's covered-hopper designs, these cars became a familiar sight on North American railroads and private-owner fleets.

The AEX reporting marks were used by American Export Lines, a company associated with the movement of bulk commodities by rail. Cars carrying AEX markings could be found operating across the North American rail network as part of the interchange system, allowing them to travel far beyond the railroad that originally handled them.
